Description

Muted burgundy, gray, white, teal, and earthen tones move around a dark central presence, forming an environment that initially appears entirely abstract.

Closer examination reveals something concealed within that darker form. Pale cellular details begin to resemble a face—complete with an unsettling, toothlike grin. The discovery changes the relationship between the viewer and the painting. What seemed to be an act of observation becomes an encounter, as though the presence within the work has noticed the viewer at precisely the same moment.
